What is a Revolving Door?

A revolving door is a type of entrance system that either improves energy efficiency, or keeps the public secured or melds the transition of people in and out of buildings. An example of which are commercial spaces, airports, hotels, and shopping centers, revolving doors keep people entering and leaving a facility without disturbing the indoor environments.

Parts of a Revolving Door

A standard revolving door generally consists of a few of the essential elements below:

  • Central Shaft: Axis of rotation around which the door panels sway.
  • Door Wings or Panels: Usually three or four glass or solid panels attached to the central shaft.
  • Rotating Mechanism: This can either be powered by manual push or automated systems.
  • Drum: Circular enclosure which contains the door structure. These parts together make a continuous movable channel for pedestrian movement.

How a Revolving Door Works

The doors revolving work on a fundamental principle: that of rotating movement. The moment a user touches one of the entrance wings (or the system automatically senses the movement), the panels begin to rotate around the central axis. Individual compartments are formed to permit persons to pass while reducing the interaction between outdoor and indoor environments.

Let's break this down point for point on how revolving doors function:

  • Entrance: A user approaches the revolving door and slightly pushes one of the door wings (or the automatic sensor activates the rotation).
  • Rotation: The door wings rotate beyond the central axis, creating segments through which people pass.
  • Exit: The user continues on, and the door cycles around bringing them to the other side, with exiting happening easily into the building or out of doors.

Why do Businesses Choose Revolving Doors?

  • Slash Energy Costs | Revolving doors result in lower energy bills that offer a 100% payback in just a few years. They also provide predictable, consistent energy bills  no matter how much traffic flows through the entrance.
  • Elevate the Experience | Create an inviting, pleasant environment that encourages customers to stay a while - grab a bite to eat, sip a cup of coffee, and continue shopping!
  • Repurpose Valuable Space | If you have a double door vestibule, you can reclaim valuable indoor space to entice customers with promotions or display merchandise, ultimately resulting in higher revenue.
  • Extend Your Brand | Use customization to accentuate a door with your brand color or logos and create a premium impression for your customers. Endless flexibility and possibility.
